PHOENIX, ARIZ. – The Valley City State University men's and women's golf team competed in the Frontier Conference Championships hosted at Papago Golf Club in Phoenix Ariz. On Tuesday and Wednesday April 28-29. The Vikings men's team placed seventh of eight teams among their Frontier Conference competitors. VCSU women did not record a team score while
Sydney Carlson grabbed a 15th place individual finish while
Sadie Neustel finished 25h.
The 54-hole tournament was played of three days including a practice round on Monday, April 27, 36-holes on Tuesday, April 28, and 18-holes on Wednesday, April 29. After round one, Viking men sat in sixth of eight just five strokes back from Montana Tech in fifth place.
Nick Meisch led the Vikings shooting an opening round 76 with highlighted by a bridie on the par-5 ninth. During round two VCSU men were bested by the field falling to eighth as
Owen Haase led VCSU men with a +1 round of 73 with birdies on holes eight and 15. VCSU closed the tournament shooting their lowest team score of the tournament to climb back to seventh. The team shot 322-333-320 finishing the 54-hole tournament with 975 strokes.
Junior,
Owen Haase finished the tournament in 14th after carding an 82-73-76 finishing +15. Freshman
Nick Meisch followed in 18th with a 76-85-75 finishing +20.
Zach St. Aubin,
John Renaud and
Wyatt Meisch finished in 33rd, 37th, and 39th respectively.
VCSU women were led by
Sydney Carlson with a 86-85-88, +43 finish earning 15th place. Freshman,
Sadie Neustel placed 25th with a 89-96-92 +61.
The Frontier Conference recognized two Champions of Character from VCSU in
Zach St. Aubin and
Sydney Carlson. NAIA Champions of Character awards are given to student athletes who demonstrate integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship, and servant leadership with representing their institution.
