Vikings Head West for Frontier Conference Golf Meet

VALLEY CITY, N.D. – Fresh off a men's team championship and Sadie Neustel's third individual victory of the fall, the Valley City State University golf teams head to Helena, Montana, for the second fall Frontier Conference tournament Oct. 5–6 at Bill Roberts Golf Course.

The Vikings closed September with a strong showing at Hawley Golf Club. The men shot 299 to finish seven strokes ahead of Mayville State, earning their second team title of the fall. Nick Meisch led VCSU with a 73 for third place, while individual entrant Parker Dockter placed fourth with a 74. Owen Haase and Jace Fyre tied for fifth with matching 75s, and Xander Klinnert placed eighth with a 76.

That depth also helped the Vikings win the Spartan Invitational earlier in September. VCSU combined rounds of 305 and 299 for a 604 total, edging Mayville State by three strokes. Haase captured the individual championship with a 147 (+3), Meisch finished second at 148 (+4), and six Vikings placed inside the top 10. Haase's victory followed a runner-up finish at the Blue Hawk Fall Invitational, where he shot 151 and the men placed third.

The Vikings now look to carry those winning performances into conference competition. At the first Frontier tournament in Detroit Lakes, VCSU placed seventh with a three-round total of 946. Meisch improved each round to lead the team with a 234, tying for 22nd, while Haase followed at 235. Fyre closed with a 73 as the Vikings posted their best team round of the tournament at 305.

Klinnert has also provided a recent highlight for the young men's roster. Competing individually at the United Printing Marauders Invitational, he shot 74–75 for a 149 (+5), placing 13th and playing the back nine at even par both days. VCSU tied for 10th in the team standings with a 645.

On the women's side, Neustel has led the way with three individual titles. She won the Blue Hawk Fall Invitational with a 163 and the Spartan Invitational with a 171 before adding her latest championship at Hawley. Her 83 there topped the 14-player field by seven strokes. Olivia Kalbus tied for fourth with a 92, while Ally Larson and Isabella Schlick tied for ninth with 102s. The Viking women finished second with a 379, seven strokes behind Mayville State.

Larson's fall also includes a runner-up finish at the Spartan Invitational, where she shot 176. Neustel added a 12th-place finish with a 164 at the first Frontier tournament, helping VCSU tie for sixth with a 740. At Hawktree, Neustel tied for seventh with a 172 as the women placed fifth at 760, cutting 14 strokes from their team score on the second day.

With two men's team titles and three individual wins for Neustel highlighting the fall, the Vikings enter Helena with performances to build on. Their next challenge is to bring that success together across two days of conference competition.
