ATHLETIC TRAINING

The Athletic Training Department's primary mission at Valley City State University is to provide quality medical care to the student-athletes. The services to be delivered can be broken down into three primary types: injury prevention, management of athletic injuries, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries. VCSU student-athletes are required to fill out several forms before participation in intercollegiate athletics is allowed. Those forms are available at the link below.

Meet the VCSU Athletic Trainers

Anna BratschAnna Bratsch, MS, LAT, ATC - Director for Sports Medicine/Associate Athletic Director

Anna Bratsch is in her 11th year as head athletic trainer at Valley City State University and her second season as an Associate Athletic Director. She was named the North Star Athletic Association Athletic Trainer of the Year in 2020. 

Bratsch joined the Viking staff in 2013 after working the past eight years as assistant athletic trainer for Concordia College Moorhead, where she was employed by Sanford orthopedics and sports medicine.

She graduated from MSU-Moorhead in 2005 with a Bachelor's degree in athletic training and exercise science. Bratsch then completed her Master's degree in health nutrition and exercise science from NDSU in 2007.

Certifications: Impact Trained Athletic Trainer, SMT-1: High Velocity Low-Amplitude Thrust Manipulation of Cervical, Thoracic, Lumbar and SI Joint. Bratsch is a certified Level 1 Graston Technique provider, and a Level 1 Master Dry Needling provider.

Kathleen Gallais is in her 1st year as a full-time assistant athletic trainer at Valley City State University.
 
Gallais joined the Viking staff after working for three years as a full-time Athletic Trainer for Sanford Orthopedics.
 
She graduated in 2018 from Valley City State University with a bachelor’s degree in athletic training. Gallais also competed for the Vikings as a pitcher on the VCSU softball team. Following graduation from VCSU she moved on to obtain her masters in Advanced Athletic Training in 2020 from NDSU where she served as a graduate assistant for the NDSU Men’s and Women’s Track and Field teams.
 
In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, hiking, and spending time with her friends, family, and dog Brutus.
 
Certifications: Certified Level 1 Graston Provider, Certified Level 1 Dry Needling, Certified BFR Provider.


Demetrios HospidalesDemetrios Hospidales, MAT, LAT, ATC - Assistant Athletic Trainer

Demetrios Hospidales is in his 1st year as a full-time assistant athletic trainer at Valley City State University.
 
Hospidales joined the Viking staff after a combined 17 years of military and law enforcement experience.
 
Hospidales graduated from Minnesota State University Moorhead in 2021 with a bachelors degree in exercise science. Hospidales then completed his Masters of Athletic Training from NDSU in 2023. 
 
In his spare time, he enjoys coaching fitness classes, tactical shooting, exercising, martial arts, gardening and spending time with his wife and three kids.
 
Certifications: Certified level 1 Graston Provider
 


Connor WestbergConnor Westberg, MAT, LAT, ATC - Assistant Athletic Trainer

Westberg enters his 1st year as assistant athletic trainer at Valley City State University. He graduated with a masters degree in athletic training from NDSU in 2023, and earned a bachelor's degree in exercise science from NDSU in 2022.
Outside of work, Westberg enjoys weightlifting, woodworking, and traveling.
