SOUTH HEART, N.D. – Valley City State University golfers Sadie Neustel and Owen Haase each earned top-two finishes Tuesday as the Vikings completed the two-day Blue Hawk Fall Invitational.
The tournament opened Monday at Heart River Golf Course in Dickinson before concluding Tuesday at Pheasant Country Golf Course in South Heart.
Neustel captured the women's individual championship with a two-round total of 163. The VCSU sophomore followed an opening-round 84 with a 79 on Tuesday to finish at 20-over par, two strokes ahead of Dickinson State's Brooklyn Materi.
Olivia Kalbus was the Vikings' next finisher, placing 12th with rounds of 94 and 98 for a 192. Ally Larson tied for 13th after carding rounds of 92 and 103 for a 195, while Izzy Schlick finished 16th with a two-day total of 212.
The VCSU women placed third in the four-team field with a team score of 762. Dickinson State Blue won the team title, followed by Mayville State in second.
On the men's side, Haase secured runner-up honors with a two-round score of 151. After opening with a 79, the Viking senior fired a 1-over 72 during Tuesday's final round. Mayville State's Drew Passa earned medalist honors with a 148.
Noah Stockdill joined Haase inside the top five, tying for fifth with rounds of 82 and 77 for a 159. Parker Dockter made one of the tournament's biggest final-round improvements, following an opening 89 with a 2-over 73 to move into a tie for 11th at 162.
Xander Klinnert and Jace Fryce tied for 14th with matching two-round totals of 165. Nick Meisch and Bryce Zietz tied for 18th at 166, Dylan Hedge tied for 24th at 168 and Tony Piccalo placed 30th with a 179.
The Viking men finished third with a team score of 631, just one stroke behind runner-up Dickinson State Blue. Mayville State won the tournament with a 625.
VCSU returns to competition Thursday and Friday for the Spartan Invitational at Pebble Lake Golf Course in Fergus Falls, Minnesota.
