Haase and Neustel Win Spartan Invite; Viking Men Take Home First Place

FERGUS FALLS, MINN. – Valley City State University golfers Sadie Nustel and Owen Haase capture first place finishes at the Spartan Invitational while the men's team also captures their first win of the season.

The two-day tournament, hosted by the Minnesota State Community and Technical College, was played at Pebble Lake Golf Course on Thursday and Friday, Sept. 17-18.

Neustel makes it two in a row to start the year, winning her second tournament with a score of 77-94, for a two-day total of 171. Viking freshman Ally Larson recorded a career best finish tying for second with an 88-88 total of 176. Izzy Schlick finished seventh in the field of twelve with a two-day total of 199.

The Vikings men took home the team win led by senior Owen Haase taking first individually in the tournament. Haase carded and impressive 73-74 two-day total of 147 (+3). Haase carded a tournament leading nine birdies in the win. Sophomore Nick Meisch, took second, finishing one back after a 77-71, 148 (+4) total.

The Vikings finished with six players in the top ten. Jace Fyre finished eighth, with a 77-77, for a 154. Noah Stockdill shot a 78-77, 155 taking ninth. Parker Dockter and Dylan Hedge tied at tenth at +13 for a two-day total of 157.

Bryce Zietz, Xander Klinnert, and Tony Piccalo finished 12^th, 19^th, and 27^th in the field of 31. The Vikings men's team finished 305-299 for a tournament total of 604. Mayville State University trailed by three with a 303-304 total of 607. M State and Turtle Mountain rounded out third and fourth in the tournament.

VCSU Golf is back in action on Monday and Tuesday for the first fall Frontier Conference tournament hosted a Wild Flower Golf Course in Detroit Lakes, Minn.
