CARRINGTON, N.D. –
Sydney Carlson took medalist honors by five strokes at the VCSU Spring Invite played Monday and Tuesday at CrossRoads Golf Club in Carrington.
Carlson held a one-stroke lead over Dickinson's Elly LeBlanc after carding an 81 in the opening round Monday. She fired another 81 in the final round to hold on for her second career individual win.
The Viking women were just three strokes back of Dickinson State to finish in second place with a 702 (360-342). Tuesday's 342 is VCSU's lowest team score this spring.
Kathleen Vetter finished in fourth place with a 170 (86-84) and
Winter Oldrock placed sixth with a 178 (93-85).
Paige Hulm tied for 10
th after carding a 192 (100-92) and
Sydney Staus placed 14
th with a 197 (102-95).
The Viking men were led by
Grant Inniger who moved up 15 places after firing a career-low 2-under-par 70 in Tuesday's final round. Inniger carded a two-day 158 (88-70) to tie for 16
th place overall.
The Viking men improved their team score by 25 strokes to move past Mayville State for fifth place. VCSU finished with a 641(333-308) at the 36-hole tournament. Tuesday's 308 is VCSU's best single-round team score since September 18 at the Viking Fall Invite, also played at CrossRoads Golf Club.
VCSU's
Brett Limke was just one stroke back of Inniger, carding a 159 (81-78) to tie for 18
th place.
Owen Haase tied for 23
rd with a 162 (84-78).
Zach St. Aubin placed 29
th with a two-day 168 (81-87) and
Wyatt Meisch was just behind in 30
th place with a 169 (86-83).
The Viking men also had
Henrik Jacobsen and
Parker Heydt competing as individuals. Jacobsen carded a 188 (95-93) to place 33
rd and Heydt finished with a 202 (100-102) at the VCSU Spring Invite.
Jamestown's Orange took the team title after carding a four-over-par 580 (291-289) team score. The Jimmies secured four of the top six individual places in the tournament, including Jackson Worner's five-under-par 139 (72-67) to win individual medalist honors.
