MITCHELL, S.D. – The Valley City State golf teams opened the spring season Monday and Tuesday at the Dakota Wesleyan Spring Invite. The Vikings were led by
Grant Inniger and
Kathleen Vetter at the par-72 Lakeview Golf Course.
Inniger fired a 162 (80-82) and placed 21
st overall to open the spring season. Vetter placed 19
th and carded a 182 (94-88) at the tournament.
VCSU's women placed fifth out of six teams, carding a 779 (387-392). The Viking men placed eighth out of eight teams with a 698 (360-338).
For the Viking women,
Sydney Carlson was right behind Vetter with a 183 (88-95) and a 20
th place finish.
Winter Oldrock finished in 30
th place with a 201 (97-104), and
Sydney Staus placed 33
rd with a 213 (108-105). VCSU's
Sarah Monilaws added a 292 (146-146) to place 38
th and round out the Viking women.
Briar Cliff's Helene Getz Bergmo won the women's individual title by 10 strokes after carding a two-day 154 (80-74). She led the Chargers to win the team title, posting a 668 team score (346-322).
On the men's side,
Owen Haase placed 27
th with a 166 (92-74).
Zach St. Aubin carded a 176 (87-89) to place 37
th and
Parker Heydt shot a 194 (101-93) to place 39
th. Rounding out the men's team was
Wyatt Meisch who placed 43
rd and carded a 205 (109-96).
Competing as individuals,
Brett Limke finished in 34
th place with a two-day 170 (86-84) and
Henrik Jacobsen finished 42
nd with a two-day 199 (102-97).
University of Jamestown's Jackson Worner earned individual medalist honors after firing a three-under-par 141 (73-68). Worner led the Jimmies to the men's team title as they carded a two-day 589 (298-291).

UP NEXT: VCSU competes at the Dickinson State Spring Invite on April 15-16. The tournament will be played at Heart River Golf Course in Dickinson.
