HELENA, Mont. – Valley City State Univesity has been tabbed to finish seventh by the coaches in the Men's Golf Preseason Poll according to the Frontier Conference Men's Golf Coaches' Preseason Poll announced Thursday afternoon.
The Vikings return four players from last year's squad, two who finished in the top 20 at the conference meet in Phoenix, Arizona;
Owen Haase and
Nick Meisch. Also returning from last year's squad is
Tony Piccalo, and
John Renaud.
Defending Frontier Conference champion Rocky Mountain (Mont.) has been selected as the favorite to capture the 2026-27 men's golf conference title,
The Battlin' Bears collected six first-place votes and 49 points to claim the top spot in the eight-team preseason poll. Bellevue (Neb.) was picked second with 42 points.
Montana Tech and Dickinson State (N.D.) tied for third place with 31 points apiece. The Orediggers received the remaining first-place vote.
Mayville State (N.D.) was selected fifth with 26 points, followed by Carroll (Mont.) in sixth with 24 points. Valley City State (N.D.) was seventh with 12 points, while Providence (Mont.) rounded out the poll in eighth with nine points.
Rocky Mountain enters the 2026-27 season after capturing its second consecutive Frontier Conference tournament championship last spring. The Battlin' Bears dominated the 2026 conference tournament, held at Papago Golf Club in Phoenix, Ariz., finishing the three-round event at 874, 10-over par.
The Frontier conference tournament will be held at Papago Golf Club this coming spring with the dates announced later. The team winner will receive the automatic bid to the NAIA Men's Golf National Tournament in Fayetteville, N.C., on May 18-21, 2027.
