VALLEY CITY, N.D. – May-Port CG won its first ever Barnes County Boys Basketball Tournament Championship with a win over the defending champion Valley City Hi-Liners at the 107
th edition of the oldest tournament in North Dakota. Hankinson, Barnes County North, and LaMoure/Litchville-Marion also picked up wins on Friday.
7th Place Game: Hankinson 64, Enderlin 33
Hankinson scored ten straight points in the first quarter to break open a tie game on the way to a 64-33 win over Enderlin in the 7
th place game. Due to a scheduling conflict, Richland could not play on Friday, so the third ranked Hankinson Pirates picked up the game.
Raeshaun Earl filled the stat sheet for Hankinson with 20 points, five rebounds, five assists, and nine steals. Gunner Illg scored twelve points, Mason Mauch and Jacob Wallock had eight points each. Parker Falk chipped in seven.
Karson Gruba had ten points to lead the Eagles. Orien Adargo had nine points, seven rebounds, four assists, and three blocked shots.
5th Place Game: Barnes County North 45, Maple River 37
Barnes County North scored the first eleven points of the third quarter, then held off a Maple River comeback for a 45-37 win in the fifth-place game.
James Schwehr led the Bison with 14 points and seven rebounds. Ethan Hanson had twelve points and eleven rebounds. Grady Barclay had eight points and Jayson Schelnker added seven.
Blake Theurer led the Raiders with 14 points. Preston Dows had eight points and five assists. Damien Norrie scored six points and had a team high four rebounds.
3rd Place Game: LaMoure/Litchville-Marion 56, Wyndmere-Lidgerwood 54
Gunner Thielges converted a three-point play with 1.5 seconds left in overtime leading the Loboes to a 56-54 win over the Warbirds in the third-place game.
Avery Kramer led the Loboes with 23 points and added four steals. Gunner Tielges had 13 points, five rebounds, five assists, and three steals. Preston Arndt added eleven points and nine rebounds.
Jace Stenson led the Warbirds with 19 points and added six rebounds. Sebastian Kackman had twelve points and16 rebounds. Jaxon Krier added six points. Blaise Frolek, Owen Laddusaw, and William Gutzmer each scored five.
Championship Game: May-Port CG 66, Valley City 58
May-Port CG outscored Valley City 26-12 in the fourth quarter to turn a two-point halftime deficit into a twelve-point lead heading into the fourth quarter on the way to a 66-58 win over the Hi-Liners in the Championship game of the Barnes County Tournament.
Bricker Johnson and Noah Djibonon led the Patriots with 20 points each. Djibonon added ten rebounds and three steals. Johnson had eight rebounds, six assists, and two steals. Case Judisch added ten points and Jayd Larson had nine off the bench.
Mike Mattson led the Hi-Liners with 27 points. Finn Dockter added ten points. Zander Compson had nine points and Jack Dieterle chipped in eight points and eight rebounds.
The Patriots avenged a 50-40 loss to the Hi-Liners in last year's semifinals. This is the first championship in the Barnes County Tournament for May-Port CG.
