BCT Day 1 Recap

VALLEY CITY, N.D. – Three higher seeds and one lower seed advanced to the semifinals of the 107th Barnes County Boys Basketball Tournament. May-Port CG, LaMoure/Litchville-Marion, Valley City, and Wyndmere-Lidgerwood all picked up wins on day 1 of the tournament held at the W.E. Osmon Fieldhouse on the campus of Valley City State University.

Game 1: #1 May-Port CG 58, #8 Richland 31
The top seeded Patriots jumped out to a 18-4 first quarter lead and never looked back on the way to the 58-31 win over eighth seeded Richland.

Noah Djibonon scored 13 points to lead the Patriots. Bricker Johnson added twelve.

Owen Sayler led the Colts with eight points and five rebounds.

Game 2: #4 LaMoure/Litchville-Marion 53, Maple River 36
Number four seed LaMoure/Litchville-Marion outscored Maple River 19-9 in the fourth quarter to pull away for a 53-36 win over the fifth seed Raiders.

Avery Kramer was the led the Loboes with 15 points. Colby Thielges came off the bench to score ten and added seven steals.

Colby Weshnevski led the Raiders with 15 points. Blake Theurer added eleven points.

Game 3: #2 Valley City 66, #7 Enderlin 32
Defending champ Valley City outscored Enderlin 25-3 in the third quarter to pick up the 66-32 win over the Eagles.

Miken Mattson led the Hi-Liners with 24 points, three assists, and four steals. Jack Dieterle added 13 points and nine rebounds. Zander Compson chipped in twelve points, seven rebounds and three steals for Valley City.

Ethan Cimbura led the Eagles with eleven points.

Game #4: #6 Wyndmere-Lidgerwood 55, #3 Barnes County North 53
The best game of the day was the last game of the day. Sixth seed Wyndmere-Lidgerwood trailed by as much as 16 points midway through the second quarter but came back to beat the Bison 55-53.

The Warbirds outscored the Bison 7-1 over the last 3:10 to pick up win. Blaise Frolek and Jace Stenson each had 15 points to pace the Warbirds. Stenson added four assists and four steals. Sebastian Kackman had eleven points, 19 rebounds, and five blocked shots for the winners.

Jayson Schlenker led the Bison with 19 points. James Schwehr had six points and ten rebounds. Ethan Hanson had six points and seven boards.
