BISMARCK, N.D. – Valley City State University track & field competed in the Al Bortke Open held in Bismarck, N.D. by the University of Mary on Sunday, April 6. The Vikings recorded two school records, two first place finishes, and 13 top eight finishes in the meet.
Valley City State's
Karly Just broke the school record in the 10,000-meter running a 37:35.87 taking first place in in a field of six.
Jordan Mount also set a school record in the 400-meter running a 48.44 which was good for a fifth-place finish.
Viking senior
Kendra Odegard took first place in the javelin throwing a 41.04-meter attempt. She was followed by freshman
Alana Anderson who took eighth with a 32.57-meter throw.
Sophomore
Emma Muggli ran a 16.10 in the 100-meter hurdles good for a seventh-place finish.
Jade Azure a senior took sixth in the discus (38.97-meters) and seventh in the shot put (11.75-meters).
Olivia Backus took sixth in the high jump with a 1.55-meter attempt and eighth in the long jump with a 4.93-meter attempt.
Zach Baumgartner recorded a fourth-place finish in the 1500-meter running a 4:27.96. He was followed by senior Rico Garcio who ran a 4:45.35.
In the high jump
Zeke Barnick finished fifth with a 1.89-meter clearance.
Gage Gunther finished in sixth in the 800-meter running a 2:03.05.
