FARGO, N.D. – The Valley City State Viking Track and Field team competed at the Bison Spring Classic this past weekend at the Terrance Dahl and Donna Beres Track Complex on the Campus of North Dakota State University in Fargo.
The Vikings competed against nine NCAA Division II schools and one NCAA Division III school.
The Women had a great weekend with 16 personal bests set and one school record fell.
Frida Barrera set the school record for the outdoor 800 Meters. Her time of 2:18.33 broke the old school record by nearly two seconds. Alyssa Weitkum set the mark with a time of 2:20.27 back on April 28
th, 2018 at the Ron Masanz Classic at Minnesota State-Moorhead.
Other performers for the Viking women were
Jonica Taylor who set personal bests in the 200 and 400 meters.
Peyton Sauter set personal bests in the 100 and 200 Meters.
Ava Krier set a personal high in the 100 Meters. Cassidy Shute had a personal best in the 800 Meters.
Grace Backstrom had personal bests in the 100M Hurdles and the 400M Hurdles, and the Javelin.
In the field events, the throwers had a good day, especially
Greta McKenney who set four personal bests. The Shot Put, the Discus, the Javelin, and the Hammer.
Delaney Cotton set a personal best in the Hammer and
Caitlin Armbrust set a personal best in the Triple Jump.
On the Men's side, seven individual personal bests were set and two relays.
The 4x100 and 4x400 both set high water marks. The 4x100 was made up of
Aaron Cutshall,
Tommy Baldwin,
Brock Norton, and
Porter Granger. The 4x400 was made up of
Zach Baumgartner,
Mason Brehmer,
Isaac Eichhorst,
Tate Minnihan.
Individually,
Tommy Baldwin set a personal best in the 200 Meters, as did
Porter Granger.
Zach Baumgartner set a personal best in the 800 Meters.
Brock Norton set a personal high in the 400 Meters. In the field events,
Kyle Cotton and
Joel Nelson both set personal bests in the Javelin. And Zac Kuznia set a personal best in the Hammer.
