JAMESTOWN, N.D. – Valley City State University track and field records 33 top eight finishes, 10 top three finishes, and four first place finishes at the Al Cassell Classic hosted by the University of Jamestown on Saturday, April 19.
 
The Vikings competed against Concordia Moorhead, Minnesota State University Moorhead, and the University of Jamestown at the Al Cassell Classic.
 
VCSU women took five top three finishes and two first place finishes on the day.
 
Sophomore Olivia Backus took first in the high successfully clearing 1.59-meters. Backus took third in the long jump as well with a 5.15-meter jump.
 
Viking senior Kendra Odegard finished first in the javelin with a 42.97-meter throw. Odegard recorded a shot put throw of 11.54-meters good for a second-place finish. She also took second in the discus with a 37.60-meter throw.
 
VCSU men also took five top three finishes and two first place finishes on the day.
 
Viking freshman Jordan Mount took first in the 200-meter running a 22.01. Mount finished second in the 100-meter running a 11:02.
 
Gage Gunther a freshman took first in the 800-meter running a 2:03.58.
 
Mason Brehmer took third in the 800-meter running a 2:05.39.
 
In the high jump Viking freshman Zeke Barnick took third after a successful 1.90-meter jump.
