Barnes and Peraza win events at UND Open

GRAND FORKS – Jaiden Peraza and Jasmine Barnes won individual event titles Saturday as the VCSU track and field team competed at the UND Indoor Open.

Peraza cleared 2.04 meters in the men's high jump, winning the event for the third time this season. Jasmine Barnes ran a personal-best time of 19:27.78 to win the women's 5000 meters. That is also the second-fastest time in school history.

That highlighted day two of the large UND Indoor Open, which also featured Emma Muggli setting a new school record (2,821 points) in the women's pentathlon on day one.

The Vikings finished the meet with 12 Top 8 finishes, competing primarily against NCAA Division I and Division II schools.

On the men's side, Rigo Garcia placed 6th in the 5,000 meters. Cameron Champagnie was 7th in both the long jump and triple jump. Peraza won the high jump and took 8th in the triple jump.

For the Viking women, Barnes was 1st in the 5000 meters and 6th in the 1000 meters. Karly Just took 3rd in the 5000 and 7th in the 1000. Mathea Jablonsky placed 2nd in the 300 hurdles, and Muggli's school record placed her 6th in the pentathlon.

Karina Olson ran a PR of 9.17 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles, placing 7th out of 30 runners. Olson's time also ranks her 2nd in VCSU school history and was just .14 seconds off the national qualifying standard.
