Jaiden Peraza and
Jasmine Barnes won individual event titles Saturday as the VCSU track and field team competed at the UND Indoor Open.
Peraza cleared 2.04 meters in the men's high jump, winning the event for the third time this season.
Jasmine Barnes ran a personal-best time of 19:27.78 to win the women's 5000 meters. That is also the second-fastest time in school history.
That highlighted day two of the large UND Indoor Open, which also featured
Emma Muggli setting a new school record (2,821 points) in the women's pentathlon on day one.
The Vikings finished the meet with 12 Top 8 finishes, competing primarily against NCAA Division I and Division II schools.
On the men's side,
Rigo Garcia placed 6
th in the 5,000 meters.
Cameron Champagnie was 7
th in both the long jump and triple jump. Peraza won the high jump and took 8
th in the triple jump.
For the Viking women, Barnes was 1
st in the 5000 meters and 6
th in the 1000 meters.
Karly Just took 3
rd in the 5000 and 7
th in the 1000.
Mathea Jablonsky placed 2
nd in the 300 hurdles, and Muggli's school record placed her 6
th in the pentathlon.
Karina Olson ran a PR of 9.17 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles, placing 7
th out of 30 runners. Olson's time also ranks her 2
nd in VCSU school history and was just .14 seconds off the national qualifying standard.
Up next: The Vikings will compete Friday and Saturday at the Bison Open, hosted by North Dakota State University in Fargo.
