BELLEVUE, NEB. – Three Valley City State golfers earned Second Team All-Conference after finishing in the Top 14 at the North Star Athletic Association Championships May 1-2. The two-day tournament was played at the par-72 Platteview Golf Club in Bellevue, Neb.
Senior
Hayley Shanks had her best career finish at the conference tournament after placing 10th in the field of 30 golfers. Shanks fired a 189 at the 36-hole tournament (96-93). This is her second career All-Conference nod after placing 13th and earning Honorable Mention All-Conference at the NSAA tournament as a junior.
Freshman
Sydney Carlson finished in 13th place after carding a 194 (94-100) to earn Second Team All-Conference.
On the men's side, junior
Grant Inniger totaled a 168 tournament score (86-82) to place 14th and round out VCSU's All-Conference honorees.
Inniger and
Nevaeh Davis were named VCSU's Champions of Character this season which recognizes the student-athlete who best represents the NAIA's five core values of integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship, and servant leadership.
The Viking women earned a fourth place finish in the North Star with a 782 team score (389-393).
VCSU's
Kathleen Vetter carded a 198 (97-101) as a freshman to finish in 18th place.
Nevaeh Davis carded a 207 (108-99) to place 21st and
Sydney Staus added a 211 (102-109) to tie for 22nd place.
Bellevue's women won the NSAA Tournament with a two-day 673 (338-335). Bellevue's Maria Pinedo earned the individual title by nine strokes after firing a 155 (78-77) at the tournament. The Bruins advance to the 2023 NAIA Women's Golf National Championship that will be held May 23-26 at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Ill.
The VCSU men finished with a 780 (401-379) to finish in fifth place in the North Star.
Derek Bear finished with a 193 (96-97) to finish in 24th place.
Wyatt Meisch added a 201 (104-97) and a 26th place finish, and
Parker Heydt carded a 218 (115-108) to place 28th. Rounding out the Viking men was
Henrik Jacobsen who tied for 29th place and carded a 234 (118-116).
Bellevue's men took the team title with a 604 (301-304). Bellevue's Hugo Ronnberg carded a 148 (73-75) to win individual medalist honors. The Bellevue men will compete at the NAIA National Championship to be held May 16-19 in Mesa, Ariz. at the Las Sendas Golf Club.
