The Valley City State University men's basketball team opened a five-game home stand Friday night, and it was good to be home.
Riley West scored 15 points as the Vikings knocked off Trinity Bible College 74-59, improving to 4-6 overall this season and 4-1 at the friendly confines of the W.E. Osmon Fieldhouse.
Leading 57-47 with 6:04 remaining, the Vikings went on a 9-3 run to put the game away and take a 66-50 lead. Jayden Ferguson scored the first four points of the run, Riley West knocked down a 3 and Quinton Peterson made a shot inside to put the Vikings ahead by 16 with just 2:49 remaining.
All 11 Vikings that played scored at least two points. West led the way with 15 points, six assists and five rebounds. Four different Vikings scored nine points each: Jayden Ferguson, Mac Kroeplin, Quin Peterson and Marcus Weeks. Briton Bussman added five assists and five points.
The Vikings shot 46 percent from the field (27-59) and were 7-for-21 on 3-pointers. VCSU made 13 of 18 free throw attempts.
Trinity Bible College was led by 11 points each from Jonathan Sevlie and Braden Phillips. The Lions shot 38 percent from the field (19-50) and were 6-for-20 on 3-pointers. The Lions made 15 of 24 free throw attempts.
