Vikings fall to Carroll College

MOORHEAD, MN – Carroll College jumped out to an eleven-point lead to start the game and held on for a 95-77 win over Valley City State in Frontier Conference Men's basketball.

The Vikings, who still have a shot to reach the conference postseason tournament, are 10-16 overall and 6-15 in the conference. Carroll is 19-7 overall and 17-4 in the conference.

A three-pointer by Drew Jones gave the Saints a 15-4 lead with 15:11 to go in the first half. A three-pointer by Taylor Bryant-Frey made it 17-9 Saints with 13:01 to go in the half. Carroll College would have it second 15-4 run over the next 3:40 to take a 19-point lead. A three-pointer by the Saint's Kellen Harrison made it 32-13 Carroll with 9:21 to go in the first half.

The biggest lead of the half came at the end of the half when Jones made a basket with 24 seconds remaining to make it 48-24 Carroll at halftime.

The lead would stay between 20 and 26 points for the first part of the second half. The Saints would get the lead to 26 on three occasions in the next 75 seconds. The last time came on a basket in the lane by Lorence Dela Cruz. Kaleb Larson made two free throws to cap off a 9-0 Viking run to make it 65-48 with 11:01 to go in the second half.

The Saints would get the lead to 26 again on three occasions in a 2:19 second span. A two-pointer by Harrsion made it 81-55 with 6:08 to go in the second half. Valley City had one more run in them. This was an 18-7 run that got the lead to 15. A three-pointer from Larson made it 88-73 with 2:37 to go. But it was too little too late for Valley City State as the Saints won 95-77

Five Vikings scored in double figures led by JR Cison and Logan Deal who each had 13 points. Kaleb Larsoin and Alex Lester each had twelve points. Caden Grinde came off the bench to score eleven points and grab nine rebounds. Taylor Bryant-Frey had nine points and a team high five assists. Joel Nelson added seven points and four assists.

UP NEXT: Valley City State will host conference leading Rocky Mountain College on Saturday, February 21st at Concordia College in Moorhead. It will be Senior Day for Vikings as Caden Grinde, Nick Carlson, Kaleb Larson, and JR Cison will be recognized before the game. Tip off is slated for 5:00 p.m.
