VALLEY CITY, N.D. – The Valley City State softball team hits the road this weekend for a Frontier Conference series at Carroll College, with a pair of doubleheaders scheduled for Saturday and Sunday in Helena, Mont.
The Vikings enter the weekend with a 19-18 overall record and a 9-7 mark in conference play, while Carroll College comes in at 14-12 overall and 9-7 in the Frontier.
VCSU has been powered offensively by a deep and consistent lineup, batting .325 as a team this season. Kennadi Stone leads the way, hitting .471 with a mix of power and on-base ability, while Madden Bogenreif and Pascale Kihn have added steady production in the middle of the order. Kylee Banerd has also provided a power boost, while Jenna Decker continues to be a key contributor both at the plate and on the bases.
Carroll College brings a strong offensive group of its own, hitting .315 as a team and showing the ability to generate runs consistently throughout the lineup.
In the circle, the Vikings are led by Maddy Hazelton, who has logged over 100 innings this season with over 100 strikeouts, while Cooper Klaahsen adds valuable depth to the pitching staff. Carroll counters with a pitching staff that has handled a heavy workload this season and kept opponents competitive in conference play.
With both teams sitting near the middle of the conference standings, the weekend series carries important implications as the regular season continues.
The four-game set begins Saturday with a doubleheader at 1:00 and 3:00 p.m., followed by another doubleheader Sunday at 12:00 and 2:00 p.m. at Centennial Park in Helena, Mont.
