DICKINSON, N.D. – Dickinson State scored late in game both games to pull out a sweep of the doubleheader and the four game series. The Blue Hawks won game one Saturday 15-2 in six innings and took game two 7-5.
Valley City State is now 16-17 on the season and 6-6 in the Frontier Conference. Dickinson State is 26-12 overall and 14-4 in the conference.
GAME 1: Dickinson State 15, Valley City State 2 F/6
Dickinson State got on the board in the top of the third on a safety squeeze bunt by Celina Wilharm. Allyson Farrington scored to make it 1-0 Blue Hawks.
Valley City tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the fourth.
Kennadi Stone doubled, then scored on
Jenna Decker's RBI single to center field.
The Vikings took the lead in the bottom of the fifth.
Avery Kuklinski hit a two out double to deep left field. Pinch hitter
Anna Kowalyk singled to right, scoring Kuklinski to make it 2-1 Vikings.
Dickinson State took the lead back in the top of the sixth when they sent 17 batters to the plate and scored 14 runs. A two-run single by Brooke Lijewski gave the Blue Hawks a 3-2 lead. Octavia Meyer doubled to the gap in right center field, scoring Kiley Hubby and Ashlee Porter to make it 5-2 Dickinson State. Viennah Meyer doubled to deep center field, scoring Octavia Meyer to make it 6-2 Blue Hawks. Farrington singled to center; Meyer came in to make it 7-2 Blue Hawks. With the bases loaded, Wilharm was hit by a pitch, scoring Farrington to make it 8-2. Lijewski had a two-run single to make it 10-2. Hubby brought in a run with a single to center field to make it 11-2. Octavia Meyer grounded back to the pitcher, Lijewski scored to make it 12-2. Viennah Meyer hit a two-run double to make it 14-2. Farrington capped the scoring with a single to center to make it 15-2.
The Vikings were retired in order in the bottom of the sixth to end the game early.
Kennadi Stone,
Avery Kuklinski, and
Jenna Decker were all 1 for 2. Stone had a double and a run scored. Decker had an RBI, and Kuklinski scored a run.
Anna Kowalyk had a pinch-hit RBI single.
GAME 2: Dickinson State 7, Valley City State 5
Dickinson State picked up where they left off in game one by scoring four runs in the top of the first of game two.
Brooke Lijewski had a two-run single to start the scoring. Viennah Meyer hit a line drive off the shortstops glove for a two-run single to make it 4-0 Blue Hawks.
The Vikings would come back to eventually tie the game. In the bottom of the first,
Reagan Mieras would drive in
Madden Bogenreif and
Kennadi Stone with a two out, two-run single that cut the Blue Hawks lead in half.
Valley City State would get another run in the bottom of the second on an RBI single by
Pascale Kihn, scoring
Avery Kuklinski who singled to lead off the inning.
VCSU tied it at 4-4 in the bottom of the third on
Kylee Banerd's sixth home run of the season.
Dickinson State would get those three runs back in the top of the fourth. Stocktyn Stevenson had an RBI single, Wilharm hit a sacrifice fly to make it 6-4 Blue Hawks. Stevenson came in on the play on an error by Vikings' catcher
Reagan Mieras, making the score 7-4 Dickinson State.
The Vikings got a run back in the bottom of the fifth when
Kylee Banerd led off the inning with a double. Mieras then singled in courtesy runner
Olivia Kalbus to make it 7-5 Blue Hawks
The Vikings would get the tying run on in the sixth and had the tying run at the plate in the seventh but could not push across a run making the final 7-5 Blue Hawks
The Vikings out hit the Blue Hawks 14-12.
Pascale Kihn was 4 for 4 with a double and an RBI.
Reagan Mieras was 2 for 4 with three RBI. Madde Bogenreif,
Kylee Banerd, and
Anna Kowalyk were all 2 for 4. Bogenreif had a double and scored a run, Banerd had a double, home run, scored a run, and drove in one, and Kowalyk had triple.
Kennadi Stone was 1 for 3 with a run scored.
Avery Kuklinski was 1 for 4 with a run scored.
