VALLEY CITY, N.D. – The Vikings pounded out 19 hits and scored 15 runs to take the first game 15-3 in six innings. In game two, Lexi Wesson hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh to lift the Mystics to a 4-3 walk-off win.
Valley City is now 7-7 in the Frontier Conference and 17-18 overall. Bismarck State in 11-25 overall and 6-9 in the conference.
GAME 1: Valley City State 15, Bismarck State 3 F/6
The Vikings scored in each of the last four innings and had a season hi 19 hits in a15-3 win in the opener.
After a scoreless first two innings, Valley City State scored four runs in the top of the third.
Pascale Kihn led off the inning with a double then scored on
Madden Bogenreif's two-run home run to center field. It was her fourth of the season. With two out,
Anna Kowalyk singled to center field, scoring
Kennadi Stone to make it 3-0. The next batter,
Maddy Hazelton, singled to center field, bringing in
Jenna Decker to make it 4-0 Vikings.
Bismarck State would one run back in the bottom of the third on an RBI single by Brielle Wrangham.
In the fourth,
Kylee Banerd hit her seventh home run of the season, a two-run shot, to center field to make the score 6-1 Vikings.
In the top of the fifth, VCSU plated three more runs. An RBI single by Bogenreif made it 7-1. Stone drove in a run with a single, making it 8-1. And
Jenna Decker had an RBI ground out.
The Mystics kept the game from ending in the fifth with two runs. An RBI single by Leah Rolland and an RBI fielder's choice by Savannah Gustavsson made it 9-3 VCSU after five.
The Vikings would counter that with a six-run top of the sixth inning.
Avery Kuklinski had an RBI fielder's choice to make it 10-3 Vikings. Bogenreif then crushed a three-run homer to left. It was her second home run of the game and fifth of the season, making it 13-3 VCSU. Decker reached first on a throwing error by the pitcher and on the play, two runs scored to make it 15-3 VCSU.
Cooper Klaahsen would give up a lead-off walk in the bottom of the sixth but got the next three hitters to end the game.
Madden Bogenreif was 3 for 5 with two home runs and six RBI.
Pascale Kihn was 3 for 4 with four runs scored.
Anna Kowalyk was 3 for 5 with a double, a run scored, and an RBI.
Maddy Hazelton was 3 for 4 with a run scored and an RBI.
Kylee Banerd wads 2 for 4 with a home run and two RBI.
Kennadi Stone was 2 for 3 with a run scored and an RBI.
Avery Kuklinski was 1 for 4 with two runs scored and an RBI.
Jenna Decker was 1 for 5 with a run scored and an RBI.
Reagan Mieras was 1 for 4.
Maddy Hazelton got the win in the circle. She pitched five innings, allowed three hits, three earned runs, with five walks, and four strikeouts.
GAME 2: Bismarck State 4, Valley City State 3
Game two was a pitcher's dual for most of the game between VCSU's
Cooper Klaahsen and BSC's Kya Kulzer.
Both teams got on the board in the first inning. Valley City State scored two runs in the top of the first on
Jenna Decker's two-run single.
Brielle Wrangham got the Mystics on the board with a solo home run in the bottom of the first.
The game would stay 2-1 until the fifth inning. VCSU's
Kennadi Stone doubled to right field, scoring
Madden Bogenreif to make it 3-1 Vikings.
In the bottom of the inning, Wrangham struck again with a double to left, scoring Tayler Falcon to make it 3-2.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, and one out, Falcon singled to left field. Then Lexi Wesson hit an 0-2 riser over the left field fence for the two-run, walk-off home run, giving the Mystics the 4-3 win and a split of the double header.
Madden Bogenreif was 2 for 3 with two runs scored.
Kennadi Stone was 2 for 2 with a run scored and an RBI.
Jenna Decker was 1 for 3 with two RBI, and
Reagan Mieras was 1 for 3.
Cooper Klaahsen pitched a strong game despite the loss. She allowed eight hits in six and a third innings. She yielded four earned runs with one walk and eight strikeouts.
