VALLEY CITY, N.D. – The Valley City State University Viking volleyball team is back in action after what will be a ten-day break. The Vikings will host three Frontier Conference opponents next week.
The Vikings are 2-3 on the season after going 1-2 at the Siouxland Invitational last weekend.
On Wednesday, VCSU entertains Mayville State in the Frontier Conference opener. Last season, the Vikings swept the Comets, taking a five-set thriller at the Bubble, then sweeping the Comets in Mayville.
Since coming to Valley City State, head coach
Michelle Meiklejohn is 3-1 versus her former team. Meiklejohn was an assistant at Mayville State for nine seasons before coming to VCSU, and she played her final two years of college volleyball for the Comets.
After the Mayville State match, the Vikings will host #11 Montana Western on Friday night and #17 Montana Tech Saturday afternoon.
The Vikings played Montana Western six times since 2019 and have lost all six. Last year, Valley City State took the Bulldogs to five sets at the Frontier Conference/NSAA Crossover in Billings, Montana. Montana Tech has won all four meetings with the Vikings since 2008. The last meeting was at the NAIA National Tournament in Sioux City, Iowa where Tech ended the Vikings historic post season run with a 3-0 victory in pool play.
Montana Western and Montana Tech will be the third and fourth ranked teams the Vikings have played this season. They lost to #11 Oklahoma Wesleyan and #7 Northwestern, (IA) College at last weekend's tournament. Valley City State took Northwestern to five-sets.
All three matches will be played at the W.E. Osmon Fieldhouse. You can avoid lines at the door and purchase your tickets online here
