SIOUX CITY, IA – Valley City State capped off stretch of a five match in three days in Sioux City, Iowa with a four-set win over Missouri Valley College in the Siouxland Invitational. The Vikings won 25-20, 25-14, 21-25, 25-22.
Valley City State went 1-2 at the Siouxland Invitational and are 2-3 overall. Missouri Valley College is now 0-3 on the season.
Missouri Valley jumped off to a three-point lead early in the first set. A kill by Alana Burton made it 6-3 Missouri Valley. That would be the biggest lead the Vikings would have in the first set. Valley City State rallied back to take the lead thanks to a 8-2 run. A kill by
Rosie Anderson gave VCSU a 9-8 lead, a lead that they would not give up. Missouri Valley did get to within 13-12, but Valley City State would use an 8-1 run to take control of the set. Blocks by

Rosie Anderson capped the run and gave the Vikings a 21-13 lead. Missouri Valley would use a 7-2 run to get to within 24-20.
Macy Fridgen's second kill of the set gave the Vikings a 25-20 win.
In set two, Missouri Valley jumped out to a 2-0 lead. But it did not last long as Valley City State went on a 4-0 run to take the lead for good. A block by
Danielle Hagler and
Emma Lucas made it 3-2 Valley City State. It was back and forth for the next several point before VCSU went on an 8-0 run to take a nine-point lead. A kill by
Morgan Freije made it 15-6 Vikings, capping the run. The biggest lead of the set came when Freije blocked an attack by Rylee Adams that made the score 19-8. A five-point run by Missouri College cut the lead to 19-13. But the Vikings would end the set on a 6-1 run capped off by a
Rosie Anderson kill to make the final 25-14.
Set three was all Missouri Valley as they held the lead for almost the entire set. An attack error by VCSU's
Ellie Lucas made the score 14-5 Missouri Valley, that was the biggest lead of the set for MVC. Valley City State rallied back and tied the set late. A 16-7 run by the Vikings, capped off by a Freije kill, made it 21-21. Missouri Valley would score the last four points of the set to take it 25-21.
The fourth set was back and forth with the largest lead was four points. Valley City State led 13-9 after an unforced error by Missouri Valley. A 7-3 run by Missouri Valley would tie the set at 16-16. The two teams would alternate the next four points before Valley City State would use a 7-4 run to take the set 25-22 and win the match 3-1.
Senior
Danielle Hagler led balanced offense for the Vikings with ten kills and a 421 hitting percentage. She also added eight block assists. Seniors
Macy Fridgen,
Morgan Freije, and
Rosie Anderson all had nine kills.
Ellie Lucas had five kills. Anderson added five total blocks (5 assists) while Freije had four blocks (1 solo, 3 assist). Freshman
Madden Bogenreif had 26 assists and eight digs. Junior
Gracie Schumacher added 16 assists and seven digs. Senior
JayCee Richter had a team high 23 digs and Freshman Anna Pulju added 15. At the service line, senior
Delani Clarke had three aces.
