VALLEY CITY, N.D. – The Valley City State Viking women are on the road this weekend for a pair of Frontier Conference games. Friday they are in Bellevue, Nebraska to play the Bruins of Bellevue University, then on Saturday, they head to Madison, South Dakota to play the fourth ranked Trojans of Dakota State.
The Vikings started out the season 3-0 and now have split their last four games, including a 2-1 mark in the Frontier Conference. The Vikings were very close to being 3-0 in the conference but struggles at the free throw line cost them in a 66-62 loss to Montana Western. But the Vikings came back the next night and caused 22 turnovers and held on for a 61-58 win over #21 Montana Tech.
Last season, the Vikings were 1-2 versus Bellevue. They lost 60-50 in Valley City, and 78-63 in Bellevue. But they did defeat the Bruins 78-76 in the NSAA Quarterfinals in Bellevue. The Vikings are 9-14 versus the Bruins since 2016.
The series with Dakota State goes back a bit further. In the last 56 meetings, each team has won 28 games. Last year, the Vikings upset #6 Dakota State 75-61 at the Bubble after losing 67-61 earlier in the season. The two teams played again in Madison on February 15th, and the Trojans escaped with a 67-66 win. The Trojans ended the Vikings 2024-2025 season with a 64-56 win in Madison in the NSAA semifinals.
Bellevue is 4-4 overall and 0-3 in the Frontier Conference. Dakota State is 7-1 overall and 3-0 in the conference. Their only loss was and 86-82 loss to #1 Dordt.
Tipoff for both nights is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
