Women's Basketball opening night Friday, Oct. 30

VALLEY CITY, N.D. – Valley City State University women's basketball is set to kick off its 2025-26 season, taking on Providence University College in a pair of games on Friday, Oct. 31, and Saturday, Nov. 1.

Vikings women's basketball enters the season ranked eighth of 12 in the 2025-26 Frontier Conference Coaches Poll, earning 55 total points. In 2024-25, the Vikings went 15-14 overall and 6-9 in NSAA Conference games. This season, the Vikings boast a balanced roster including four seniors, five juniors, three sophomores, and three freshmen.

The Vikings tip off their season at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 30, against PUC. A live stream will be provided on the VCSU Athletics YouTube channel, as well as live stats and tickets available on the Viking Athletics website. On Saturday, Nov. 1, the game is set to start at 1:00 p.m. with the same services linked below.

This season, seniors include Madison Spacher, JayCee Richter, Aubrey Prunty, and Tilda Mauritzson. Spacher played in 27-29 games last season, making 13 starts. She totaled 101 points, 75 rebounds, 25 steals, 22 assists, and five blocks last season. Richter, a dual-sport athlete, earned honorable mention all-conference and played in 21 games, starting in 17, and amassed 240 points, 101 rebounds, 31 assists, 22 steals, and five blocks in the 2024-25 season. Back for her senior season, Prunty appeared in 19 games and scored 65 points, 42 rebounds, 11 steals, seven assists, and six blocks. Mauritzson played 27 games, scoring 157 points, 74 rebounds, and 21 steals.

Other Viking returners include sophomore Abby Aslesen, who earned NSAA Freshman of the Year and NSAA Second Team All-Conference while averaging 13.8 points per game, shooting 47 percent from the field. She tallied 6.5 rebounds per game and 20 blocks during the season. Ellie Braaten comes back as a Junior after a 2024-25 campaign that earned her Honorable Mention All-Conference and NSAA All-Defense. She started in all 29 games last season, totaling 208 points, 111 assists, 129 rebounds, and 54 steals.

In addition to their returners, the Vikings are excited to bring back former starting athlete Ashlyn Diemert as a graduate assistant. She set the school record for most threes in a game after going 11-for-11 and 39 points in last year's game against Jamestown.

The 2025-26 season features 22 Frontier Conference games, taking on all 12 conference opponents at least once as well as five non-conference games.
