Box Score The Valley City State women's basketball team shot 58 percent from the field Friday night as the Vikings cruised to an easy 102-27 victory over Crown College.
VCSU fell behind 7-2 early but scored 16 straight points to take control of the game en route to a 25-13 lead after the first quarter. The Viking advantage swelled to 44-19 at halftime and 74-23 after the third quarter.
The Vikings improve to 7-3 overall after winning their final tune-up before North Star Athletic Association conference play starts next week.
Six Vikings reached double-figure points Friday and all nine Vikings who played scored at least three points. VCSU shot 58 percent from the field (39-67), 41 percent on 3's (7-17) and 81 percent at the free throw line (17-21).
Georgia Williams led VCSU with 21 points on 8-for-13 shooting. Alli Vandal poured in 17 points on 6-for-9 shooting. Lexi Lennon, Hannah Schlecht and Nisja Bass all scored 12 points, and Kennedy Henningsgard added 11. Kaitlin Connor posted a near double-double with eight points and nine rebounds.
VCSU racked up 24 assists on 39 made shots. The Vikings' also forced 30 turnovers in the game and made 24 steals. Lexi Lennon had six assists and five steals; Hannah Schlecht finished with five assists and five steals; Vandal had four assists and six steals, and Nisja Bass added four assists and two steals.
The Viking defense held Crown to just 16 percent shooting (8-49).
Up next: VCSU (7-3) begins conference play with road games at Mayville State and Presentation College weekend. VCSU faces Mayville at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 2. On Saturday, Dec. 3, VCSU is at Presentation College for a 3 p.m. game.
