The Viking volleyball team followed up it's Friday split with another split on Saturday in Phoenix, Ariz., giving VCSU a 2-2 record during their season-opening tournament.
VCSU opened play Saturday with a hard-fought five-game victory over Embry-Riddle (Ariz.), 17-25, 25-17, 30-28, 24-26, 15-13.
In match number two, VCSU fell to Faulkner (Ala.) in four games, 21-25, 22-25, 25-20, 23-25.
The Vikings (2-2) continue play Wednesday, Aug. 26, with an exhibition match at Bismarck State College. First serve is set for 7 p.m. in Bismarck.
VCSU 3, Embry-Riddle 2
Kanani Auwae blasted 19 kills, leading three Vikings in double-digit kills during the five-game victory. Seri Geisler scored 13 kills, Barbara Ector added 11 kills and Autumn Johnson chipped in eight kills.
Jaycee George led the defense with 43 digs, while Emily Plowman dug 17 balls. Hailie Wilds served six aces. Steph Miller had 30 assists in the win, and Taylor Balkan recorded 21 assists.
Faulkner 3, VCSU 1
The Vikings played Faulkner tough but dropped their final match of the weekend, 3-1 to Faulkner University.
Chelzie-Kristina Ulu led the Viking attack with 10 kills, three aces and three block assists. Ector and Auwae each added nine kills.
Steph Miller had 25 assists and Taylor Balkan had 19 assists. Jaycee George again led the defense with 32 digs.
