VALLEY CITY, N.D. – The Valley City State University volleyball team returns home for a busy week of Frontier Conference action, hosting three matches in four days at W.E. Osmon Fieldhouse.
The Vikings open the homestand against Mayville State on Wednesday, Oct. 14, at 7 p.m. before welcoming Providence on Friday, Oct. 16, at 6 p.m. for Faculty and Staff Night. VCSU will close the week against Montana State-Northern on Saturday, Oct. 17, at 11 a.m.
VCSU enters the week at 6–14 overall and 4–9 in conference play following four-set losses at Montana Tech and Montana Western. The Vikings won the third set in both matches, showing their ability to respond after falling behind. Against Montana Tech, VCSU hit .519 in the third set with 17 kills and just three attack errors.
Madden Bogenreif led Friday's offense with 12 kills and 21 assists, while Eden Carrier added eight kills on a .429 hitting percentage. Saturday's match featured a strong defensive effort as the Vikings collected 119 digs, with six players reaching double figures. Hudson Zerface led the way with 25 digs, followed by Gracie Schumacher with 22. Madysen Geist paced the offense with 11 kills, while Carrier and Kadie Kocka each added 10.
The return home gives VCSU an opportunity to build on its recent success in Valley City. The Vikings won their last two home matches, defeating Bismarck State in five sets and sweeping Dickinson State. With three conference opponents visiting this week, VCSU will look to turn that home momentum into another productive stretch.
Wednesday's matchup offers the Vikings a chance to complete a season sweep of Mayville State after earning a four-set road victory over the Comets on Sept. 2. The weekend brings two opportunities to reverse earlier results, as VCSU fell in straight sets at Montana State-Northern and Providence in September.
The week will also provide fans the chance to rally around the broader athletics community. Donation buckets will be available at all VCSU home games to support Mayville State quarterback Matt Donovan and his family, helping with medical expenses throughout his recovery. Fans attending the volleyball matches are encouraged to contribute. If you cannot make it to any matches, the donation bucket will be available in the Bubble athletics office Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m.- 4:00 p.m.
Join the VCSU Booster Club, Oct. 14 at 5 PM, on the lawn north of the Bubble for a tailgate before Viking volleyball takes on the Comets Wednesday evening!
