VALLEY CITY, N.D. – The Valley City State University volleyball team returns to the road this weekend for two Frontier Conference matches in Montana.
The Vikings face Carroll College on Friday, Oct. 23, in Helena before traveling to Billings to take on Rocky Mountain College on Saturday, Oct. 24. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. Central both days.
VCSU heads into the trip after winning two of three matches during last week's homestand. The Vikings defeated Mayville State in four sets Wednesday before splitting their weekend matches against Providence and Montana State-Northern.
Saturday's five-set victory over Northern provided a dramatic finish. VCSU rallied from a 14-11 deficit in the deciding set and eventually secured a 21-19 win. Eden Carrier led the Vikings with 17 kills, while Kadie Kocka and Madysen Geist added 14 apiece. Kocka also collected 28 digs, followed by Annika Pulju with 27. Gracie Schumacher finished with 29 assists and 20 digs, while Madden Bogenreif added 23 assists and 10 digs.
Friday offers the Vikings another opportunity against Carroll after the Saints won the first meeting Sept. 22 in Valley City. VCSU pushed Carroll to extra points in each of the final two sets before falling 25-13, 26-24, 26-24. Molly Bjorneby led the Viking attack with 10 kills on a .381 hitting percentage, while Geist added nine kills.
The Vikings will look to complete a season sweep of Rocky Mountain on Saturday after defeating the Battlin' Bears in five sets during Homecoming Weekend. That victory, paired with last Saturday's extended finish against Northern, gives VCSU experience closing out tight matches as it prepares for another weekend of conference play.
