VALLEY CITY, N.D. – The Valley City State softball team returns home this weekend for a Frontier Conference matchup against Dakota State University. The Vikings will play a doubleheader on Saturday, March 28, at 2:00 and 4:00 p.m., followed by another doubleheader on Sunday, March 29, at 12:00 and 2:00 p.m. These will be VCSU's first home games of the spring.
VCSU enters the weekend with a 12-13 overall record and 2-2 in conference play, looking to bounce back after a one-game losing streak. Dakota State comes in at 7-15 overall, 1-3 in conference play.
The Vikings have historically dominated this matchup, holding a 57-11 record all-time against the Statesmen, including 11 consecutive wins. VCSU averaged 8.25 runs per game in the series and won the most recent meeting 5-2 on May 2, 2025.
At the plate,
Kennadi Stone (.449, 20 RBI, 3 HR) leads the Vikings, with
Bailey Leroux (.385) and
Pascale Kihn (.376) providing additional power and consistency.
In the circle,
Maddy Hazelton has pitched 72.1 innings with 67 strikeouts and six complete games, while
Cooper Klaahsen adds 42.2 innings and 41 strikeouts, giving VCSU a strong one-two punch.
The Vikings will look to use their first home games of the spring to continue their dominance over Dakota State and pick up key conference wins.
