VALLEY CITY, N.D. – This a very pivotal weekend for the Valley City State Women's basketball team. VCSU is on the road at Dickinson State and Bismarck State Friday and Saturday respectively.
The Vikings are 8-14 overall and 5-13 in the conference. Dickinson State is 6-16 overall and 4-14 in the Frontier Conference. Bismarck State is 6-17 overall and 6-12 in the conference.
The Vikings are coming off a big win over Montana State-Northern last Saturday in Havre, Montana. The Vikings got a 24 point-7 rebound game out of
JayCee Richter to lead the way. The win kept the Vikings postseason hopes alive and well heading into this weekend.
Dickinson State has struggled as of late. The Blue Hawks have dropped five games in a row. Their last win came on January 17
th when they beat VCSU in Jamestown 72-61.
Olivia Backus led the Vikings in that game with 16 points off the bench.
Ellie Braaten added 14 points and four steals.
Since 2003, the Vikings have a 33-24 advantage over the Blue Hawks in the series. Dickinson State has won the last three matchups.
Bismarck State has also dropped its last five games in a row. Their last win came over Dickinson State 78-68 on January 22
nd. That was the last of a four-game winning streak for the Mystics. The third win in that stretch was a 59-55 win over Valley City State on January 20
th in Jamestown.
Tiyana Schwinghammer led VCSU with ten points and five steals.
JayCee Richter had eight points and a game high eleven rebounds.
The Vikings trail Bismarck State College by one game for the last spot in the Frontier Conference postseason tournament with four games to go. Also in the mix is Bellevue and Dickinson State where two games separate the four teams.
