VALLEY CITY, N.D. – A course personal best and a top-15 finish at the Jimmie Invite have earned Valley City State University's Kole Albers the ERCK Hotels Frontier Conference Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week award, announced Tuesday, Oct. 6.
Albers placed 14th overall among 65 runners at the Oct. 2 meet in Jamestown, N.D. He completed the 8-kilometer race in 26:46, setting a personal best on the challenging Parkhurst course and continuing his strong season.
The performance followed a breakout race at the Augustana Invitational, giving Albers another encouraging result as the Vikings progress through their fall schedule. In Jamestown, he measured his improvement against a course known for its demanding terrain.
VCSU head coach Greg Keeler emphasized that course conditions provide important context when evaluating cross country performances. With Parkhurst presenting a difficult test, improving on a previous time offered a meaningful indication of Albers' progress.
Albers was one of two Viking men to record a Parkhurst course personal best at the meet, joining teammate Zach. His 14th-place finish also marked the first placing performance of his collegiate career.
The weekly conference recognition adds another milestone to Albers' fall campaign, rewarding a race that combined a strong finish in the field with continued individual improvement.
