VALLEY CITY, N.D. – The Valley City State University Vikings Women will be back in action this weekend as the Vikings begins a five game home stand. However, that home stand will start on the road.
Due to water getting on the playing surface at The Bubble, Valley City State University's weekend games with Bismarck State College and Dickinson State University will be played at the Jamestown Civic Center.
The weekend schedule is as follows. Saturday, January 17
th, Valley City State will play Dickinson State at the Civic Center. Women will tipoff at 5:00 p.m., the men will tipoff at 7:00 p.m.
The Vikings' games with Bismarck State will be played on Sunday, January 18
th at the Civic Center. Women will tipoff at 2:00 p.m. and the Men will tipoff at 4:00 p.m.
This will be the 57
th meeting between these two teams since 2003. Valley City State holds a 33-23 advantage in the series. However, the Blue Hawks won two of the three meetings last season. The Vikings won the regular season meeting in Valley City 79-52. Dickinson State won in Dickinson 65-63, then won in Valley City 90-85 in the NSAA Conference Tournament.
Ellie Braaten leads the team in several categories. She is tops on the scoring chart, averaging 13.0 points per game, 14.0 points per game in conference play. She leads the team in assists (50), defensive rebounds (64), and steals (31).
JayCee Richter is averaging 9.9 points per game, and she leads the team in rebounding averaging 6.2 boards per contest.
Abby Aslesen is averaging 9.5 points per game and is tops in total rebounds with 81. She has been playing her best basketball of the season as of late, scoring 20 points in two of the last three games.
Tiyana Schwinghammer is averaging 8.7 points per game and 5.0 rebounds per contest.
Valley City State is 5-10 on the season and 2-9 in the Frontier Conference. Dickinson State is 4-11 overall and 2-9 in the conference coming into the weekend. They will play at Mayville State on Friday night.
This will be the first meeting between Bismarck State and VCSU. This is the Mystics first season as a four-year school and joined the Frontier Conference with the five teams from the North Star Athletic Association.
The Mystics are 3-12 overall and 3-8 in the Frontier Conference.
