SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Valley City State University lost both games in their double header against Dakota State University falling 6-2 and 7-2 on Sunday, April 6.
The Vikings are now 15-22 on the season and 0-8 in NSAA conference games. Dakota State improves to 18-15 and 5-3 in NSAA conference games.
The games were relocated from Madison, S.D. to Sioux Falls, S.D. due to wet field conditions.
DaSU 6, VCSU 2
The Vikings fell 6-2 in game one against the Trojans.
Kaden Rozdeba was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
Jaden Babiuk was 3-for-4
The game was a pitching showdown through the first four innings until Dakota State jumped out to a 2-0 lead after a two-run home run. They doubled their lead with another two-run homer in the fifth making it 4-0. In the sixth they tallied two more from a single to right field that brought in two more runs.
The Vikings scored two in the seventh from a
Kaden Rozdeba double that made the final score 6-2.
Viking pitcher
Takao Cookson was credited the loss after a 5-2/3 inning outing yielding nine hits, six runs with five strikeouts. Cookson is now 1-2 on the season.
Dakota States Hunter Vikemyr was credited with the win pitching five innings yielding five hits, zero runs with six strikeouts. Vikemyr is now 5-3 on the season.
DaSU 7, VCSU 2
The Vikings were defeated 7-2 in game two.
Alexis Velasco led the Vikings going 3-for-4 with one home run, two RBIs, and a run.
Jaden Babiuk was 2-for-4 in the game.
Dakota State jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second from two singles that brought in three runs in total giving them a 3-0 lead.
The Vikings responded with an
Alexis Velasco two-run home run making the score 3-2.
Later in the sixth the Trojans scored three runs from two singles and a sacrifice fly taking a 6-2 lead. Later in the seventh they scored one more on a bases loaded walk taking a 7-2 lead where the game would end.
Viking pitcher
Andrew Kim pitch four innings yielding four hits, three runs with four strikeouts. Kim was credited the loss moving to 1-2 on the season.
Dakota State's Alex Swack pitched six innings yielding six hits, two runs and seven strikeouts earning the win. Keaton Young pitched in relief for three innings being credited the save.
