MITCHELL, S.D. – Valley City State University baseball lost both games of their double header against Dakota State University on Saturday, April 5. The games were relocated to Mitchell, S.D. due to wet field conditions from recent weather in Madison, S.D.
The Vikings fell 5-0 in game one, and 11-7 in game two. VCSU is now 15-20 overall and 0-6 in NSAA conference games. DSU moves to 16-15 and 3-3 in NSAA conference games.
DaSU 5, VCSU 0
The Vikings were defeated 5-0 in game one against DaSU.
Jamel Chabot was 2-for-3 in the contest.
Cody Wielgosh followed going 1-for-3. Together they had the Vikings three hits.
Dakota State put the first run on the board in the third inning after a one RBI single, making it 1-0. Later in the sixth they scored their second with a solo home run that was followed by a three-run homer in the same inning, making the score 5-0. They held that lead for the remainder of the game.
Valley City's
Hunter Magnuson pitched 5-2/3 innings yielding seven hits, five runs, with 11 strikeouts. He was credited with the loss moving to 3-3 on the season.
Dakota State's Nicholai Arbach pitched a complete game yielding three hits, no runs, with nine strikeouts. He was credited with the win moving to 5-2 on the season.
DaSU 11, VCSU 7
The Vikings fell in game two 11-7 in a back and forth nine-inning contest.
Brady Papineau was 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBIs, and two runs.
Jaden Babiuk was 2-for-4 with two runs.
Jamel Chabot was 2-for-5 with two doubles and one RBI.
Dakota State jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning after scoring on a pair of one RBI singles.
Valley City claimed the lead in the top of the fourth after a three run
Brady Papineau home run making it 3-2.
The Trojans responded reclaiming the lead 4-3 in the bottom of the fourth with a two-run home run. In the bottom of the fifth they tallied another two-run home run growing the lead to 6-3.
The Vikings rallied in the sixth scoring one run on a fielding error, then two more on a
Diesel Goya single to left tying the game at 6-6. They scored one more on a
Jamel Chabot double taking a 7-6 lead.
In the bottom of the eight Dakota State responded scoring five runs taking a 11-7 lead. They tallied two runs on a single to left, one on a bases loaded walk, and two on a single to right.
Viking
Anthony Carrasquillo was credited the loss after a 3-1/3 inning appearance where he yielded three hits, five runs, and three strikeouts. He moves to 3-4 on the season.
Connor Martin pitched 4-1/3 innings yielding seven hits, five runs, and nine strikeouts.
Dakota State's Braylon Bear was credited the win, moving to 2-2 on the season, after pitching 3-2/3 innings yielding five hits, zero runs, and five strikeouts.
