Baseball splits doubleheader with Jamestown

VALLEY CITY, N.D. – Valley City State University baseball split a pair of games in a doubleheader against the (RV) University of Jamestown.
 
The Vikings shutout the Jimmies 6-0 in game one and later fell 20-3 in game two. The Viking move to 16-25 overall and 1-11 NSAA conference games. The (RV) University of Jamestown moves to 27-11 overall and 8-4 in NSAA conference games.
 
VCSU 6, UJ 0
The Vikings took game one 6-0 after Takao Cookson pitched a three-hit shutout and complete game. On offense, Jamel Chabot went 2-for-2 with one home run, one RBI and one run. Cam Pero was 2-for-2 with two doubles, three RBIs, and one run.
 
Valley City was first to strike with a Jamel Chabot home run in the bottom of the first. Later in the first, Cam Pero doubled bringing in Judson Seliskar and Alexis Velasco.
 
Entering the second the Vikings had a 2-0 lead and added to it from a Jaden Babiuk double that allowed Hunter Logan to score, making it 3-0.
 
VCSU tallied their fifth and sixth run in the bottom of the fifth, scoring one on a Cam Pero double. Hunter Logan then hit a single that brought Pero home giving the Vikings a 6-0 lead where the game would end.
 
VCSU's Takao Cookson pitched a complete game going seven innings yielding only three hits, no runs, and no walks while posting nine strikeouts. Cookson was credited the win moving to 2-2 on the season.
 
Jamestown's Austin Shelton was credited the loss after allowing four hits and four runs with two strikeouts. Shelton moves to 2-1 on the season.
 
UJ 20, VCSU 3
The Vikings fell in game two to Jamestown 20-3. Diesel Goya led the Vikings at bat going 3-for-3 with one run. Cam Pero was 1-for-2 with two RBI's and one run.
 
The Vikings scored first with a Cam Pero home run in the bottom of the second. The Jimmies responded in the top of the third scoring three of a double and sacrifice fly making it 3-1.
 
Later in the fourth the Jimmies scored runs five and six from a sacrifice fly, and forcing the Vikings to take an out in a run-down allowing the runner on third to score, making it 6-1.
 
The Vikings tallied two of their own from an Alexis Velasco single and a bases-loaded walk making the score 6-3.
 
Down the stretch Jamestown went on a run scoring 14 unanswered runs taking the game by run rule in the eighth.

Viking pitcher Anthony Carrasquillo was credited the loss falling to 3-5 on the season. He pitched 2 and 2/3 innings allowing three runs on three hits.
 
Jamestown's Isaac Hanson was credited the win moving to 4-0 on the season after a five-hit, three-run, and four-strikeout performance.
