ORLANDO, FLA. – The Valley City State University took a pair of win in their Friday, March 7, doubleheader against Cornerstone University.
The Vikings are now 9-8 overall and 4-3 in the RussMatt Invitational. Cornerstone University is now 0-16 on the season and in the RussMatt Invitational.
VCSU 8, CU 1
The Vikings scored six in the third leading them to an 8-1 win over Cornerstone University.
Hunter Logan was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and one run.
Judson Seliskar was 2-for-2 with 3 RBIs and one run and on double.
The Vikings opened up the scoring in the top of the third.
Diesel Goya was the first to get on base with a single to left field.
Jamel Chabot reached first on an error and Goya advanced to second.
Jaden Babiuk singled driving in Goya and advancing
Justin Rogers pinch running for Chabot making the score 1-0.
Brady Papineau was walked after being hit by a pitch, and
Judson Seliskar doubled to left center for three RBIs with Rogers, Babiuk, and Papineau scoring. Later
Hunter Logan singled scoring Seliskar. Logan advanced on a single then wild pitch that took him home making the score 6-0.
In the top of the fourth the Vikings tallied one more off a
Hunter Logan single that drove home
Kaden Rozdeba. Cornerstone scored on in the bottom of the fourth making the score 7-1.
The Vikings would score one more off a
Hunter Logan sacrifice fly to end the game with a score of 8-1.
Viking
Takao Cookson pitched five innings giving up only one run and one hit. He threw six strikeouts and was credited with the win.
Harrison Metz pitched two innings giving up only one hit and zero runs. He pitched two strikeouts. Cornerstone's Conner Comiskey was credited the loss in the contest.
VCSU 4, CU 1
In game two the Vikings scored runs in the first, third and fifth innings taking a 4-1 win over CU.
Connor Hoyt was 3-for-3 with two doubles and one run.
Kaden Rozdeba was 2-for-3 with a home run, one double, and two RBIs.
The Vikings stuck first after Chabot doubled and
Justin Rogers pinch ran. Rogers advanced on a ground out late scoring in a wild pitch in the bottom of the first. In the third
Kaden Rozdeba hit a solo home run to left field. It was followed by a Hoyt single and
Alexis Velasco double that Hoyt scored on making the score 3-0.
In the fifth Babiuk scored on Rozdeba double to make the score 4-0. Later in the seventh Cornerstone would score one to make the score 4-1 where the game would end.
Viking pitcher Eil Chabot would be credited with the win after pitching three innings giving only one hit while throwing four strikeouts.
Andrew Kim also pitched three innings giving up four hits, no runs, with throwing five strikeouts.
Cornerstone pitcher Brody Nelson went six innings with four runs, 11 hits, and four strikeouts.
