BELLEVUE NEB. – Valley City State University baseball was defeated by Bellevue University in both of their games on Friday, March 28.
The Vikings fall to 15-18 on the season and are 0-4 in NSAA conference games. Bellevue improves to 18-11 overall and 4-0 in NSAA conference games.
The four game series, originally to be played in Valley City, was moved to Bellevue due to the weather, resulting in the Vikings playing as the home team batting in the bottom of each inning.
BU 11, VCSU 2
The Vikings fell 11-2 in game one against the Bruins.
Alexis Velasco led the Vikings in their efforts batting 2-for-3 with one RBI, and one walk. Catcher
Jamel Chabot was 3-for-4.
Jaden Babiuk was 1-for-2 with one RBI.
Bellevue started the game with a home run in the top of the first.
The Vikings responded scoring one in the bottom of the first from a
Jaden Babiuk single that drove home
Devon Minney.
The Bruins proceeded to add three runs in the third and one in the fourth making the score 5-1.
The Vikings scored on off an
Alexis Velasco single to right field that brought home
Porter Jorgenson.
The Bruins tallied three more runs in the sixth and seventh, closing out the game with a score of 11-2.
Viking pitcher
Takao Cookson was credited the loss after allowing five hits, five run, with five strikeouts in four innings pitched. Cookson moves to 1-1 on the season.
Harrison Metz and
Jacob Marx made trips to the mound as well each allowing three runs.
Bellevue's Kenji Miller was credited the win moving to 5-0 on the season.
BU 14, VCSU 10
The Vikings were defeated 14-10 in game two.
Kaden Rozdeba led the Vikings going 4-for-5 with four RBIs, and two runs from one home run, and one double.
Diesel Goya was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, two runs, and one home run.
Alexis Velasco was 1-for-5 with three RBIs on a home run.
Bellevue scored the first two runs of the game in the top of the second from a sacrifice fly and a double, giving them a 2-0 lead.
In the bottom of the third the Vikings tied the game at 2-2.
Alexis Velasco put the ball in play reaching on a fielder's choice out at second allowing
Diesel Goya to score from third. With runners on first and third,
Jaden Babiuk sent a single to right that brought home
Porter Jorgenson.
With the score tied at 2-2, the Bruins added one run in the top of the fourth on a single. Later in the top of the fifth the Bruins scored three on a home run to left field making the score 6-2.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Vikings responded with a three-run home run delivered by
Kaden Rozdeba that brought Cody Weilgosh and
Porter Jorgenson home. The Vikings were within one at 6-5.
In the top of the sixth Bellevue hit another three-run home run growing the lead to 9-5.
Diesel Goya responded for the Vikings sending a solo home run to left field.
In the top of the eighth the Bruins added two more runs making the score 11-6. The Vikings rallied in the bottom of the eighth scoring one on a sacrifice fly. Then another on a
Kaden Rozdeba double, and two on a Velasco home run making in a one run game at 11-10.
Bellevue scored three more in the ninth and closed the game 14-10.
Viking pitcher Andew Kim was credited the loss in his four-inning outing. He yielded six hits, six runs, with two strikeouts. Vikings

Jay Mendez also pitched in the contest.
Bellevue's Gavin Wuschke was credited the win moving to 4-2 on the season.
