DICKINSON, N.D. – The Valley City State University baseball team went 1-1 with a win against Mayville State University and a loss to (RV) University of Jamestown. The Vikings took an 8-7 win in a seven-inning game against Mayville and a 33-0 loss against the (RV) University of Jamestown.
The Vikings move to 14-13 on the season. Mayville State is now 8-11 overall. Jamestown improves to 18-8 on the season.
VCSU 8, MSU 7
The Vikings took an 8-7 win over the Comets propelled by six runs in the first three innings.
Porter Jorgenson was 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBIs, and one run.
Alexis Velasco was 2-for-3 with three runs, one RBI, and one walk.
In the top of the first the Vikings got on base early leading to
Jaden Babiuk scoring on a wild pitch. Later with runners at first and second,
Porter Jorgenson sent a home run to center field earning three RBIs, making the score 4-0.
The Vikings later added to their lead in the top of the third making it 6-0. Velasco walked, then scored of a
Cam Pero double to center field. Just after the Pero double, Jorgenson doubled bringing home Pero.
With the score of 6-0, Mayville found their groove hitting two home runs good for three runs in the bottom of the fifth, cutting the lead in half. VCSU's
Devon Minney stole home in a pick off situation making it 7-3.
In the bottom of the sixth the Comets tallied two more from a single to right that drove in two runs making the score 7-5.
Velasco sent a solo home run to left field in the top of the seventh growing the lead to 8-5. In the bottom of the seventh the Comets scored two on one single and a fielder's choice out but were stopped short of their comeback by
Johan Freudenburg.
Viking pitcher
Anthony Carrasquillo now 3-2, was credited with the win after pitching five innings with four hits, three runs, and seven strikeouts.
Johan Freudenburg was credited the save, his first of the season. Mayville's Calvin Watkins was credited the loss.
UJ 33, VCSU 0
VCSU fell 33-0 to the (RV) University of Jamestown after a one hit performance.
Christian Ramirez had the lone Viking hit in the outing.
Jamestown tallied six in the first, 10 in the second, two in the fourth, three in the fifth, two in the sixth, and 10 in the seventh on their way to a 33-0 win. They were led propelled by 10 home runs in the game.

Grady Shipman now 1-3 was credited the loss. Jamestown's Ryan Radkey now 3-2 pitched the whole game with one hit, zero runs, and 10 strikeouts.
