DICKINSON, N.D. – The Valley City State University baseball team went 1-1 in their doubleheader against Dickinson State University in the NSAA Preseason Classic. The Vikings fell in the first game 13-1. They took game two 6-4 splitting the series 1-1 on the day.
The Vikings leave the NSAA Preseason classic going 2-2 with an overall record of 15-14. Dickinson State moves to 8-17 on the season.
DSU 13, VCSU 1
The Vikings were defeated 13-1 in their first match up with Dickinson State University. Viking
Jamel Chabot was 2-for-3 on the day.
Judson Seliskar was 1-for-2 with an RBI and run.
Dickinson State got off to a hot start scoring six in the first inning. They opened the game with a two-run home run, scored on an error and three walks. Later in the second they tallied one more making it 7-0.
The Vikings scored their lone run with a
Judson Seliskar single shot home run to center field.
Down the stretch DSU score runs in the third, fifth and sixth bringing the score to 13-1 where the game would end.
VCSU's
Garrett Dykstra was credited the loss, his first of the season, while
Jacob Marx, and
Jay Mendez also made trips to the mount. DSU's Trent Richter now 2-1 was credited the win.
VCSU 6, DSU 4
The Vikings took a 6-4 walk off win in the bottom of the ninth after a
Christian Ramirez three run homer. VCSU's Ramirez was 1-for-4 with a home run, three RBIs and one run.
Brady Papineau was 2-for-2 with one RBI.
Jaden Babiuk was 1-for-4 with a home run.
The Vikings got on the board first with a solo shot home run to right field from
Jaden Babiuk making it 1-0. Later in the second
Diesel Goya single bringing home Papineau for one RBI, giving the Vikings a 2-0 lead.
In the top of the third DSU responded scoring three runs, two from a double and two from a single taking a 4-2 lead.
The Vikings responded in the bottom of the third scoring one off a Papineau single making the score 4-3 in favor of DSU.
The game remained at 4-3 until the bottom of the ninth where the Vikings would take their third walk off victory of the season. With two runners on base and two outs Viking
Christian Ramirez stepped up to the plate and sent a three-run home run out over center field cementing a 6-4 Viking win.
VCSU's
Harrison Metz was credited with the win moving to 2-0 on the season. Metz pitched four innings yielding only two hits, zero runs, while throwing five strikeouts.
Kahlil Tilbury pitched three innings yielding four runs, and five hits. Tilbury had one strikeout on the day.
DSU's Partick Dietz was credited the loss after yielding the game winning run.
