ATCHISON, KAN. – Valley City State University Baseball split a double header against Dordt University on Tuesday, Feb. 25. The games were played at a neutral site at the Benedictine College baseball field.
Valley City State won the first game 9-3 but fell in the second losing 8-4. The Vikings move 5-5 on the season, while Dordt move to 5-7 on the season.
VCSU 9, DU 3
In game on the Vikings took down the Defenders 9-3 off seven hits with only one error. Dordt had three runs off four hits, committing three errors.
Hunter Logan was 2-for-3 with two RBI's.
Judson Seliskar was 1-for-1 with one home run, three RBI's and a walk.
Dordt opened he scoring earning one run in the first. The Vikings rallied in the fourth scoring runs on an
Alexis Velasco sac fly, a based loaded single from
Porter Jorgenson, a
Hunter Logan single to right field, and a
Connor Hoyt single, scoring five in total.
With the score of 5-1 the Vikings tallied two more in the fifth scoring one run on a Seliskar sac fly, and a Dordt error allowing Babiuk to get home. The Vikings entered the seventh inning with a 7-1 lead where they grew it to 9-1 off a Seliskar two run homer.
The Vikings gave up a pair of runs in the seventh, but it was too little too late for Dordt in this one.
VCSU's
Hunter Magnuson pitched six innings earning a win moving to 2-1 on the season. He gave up four hits, three runs and two walk. Magnuson earned an impressive 11 strikeouts on the day.
Jay Mendez pitched one inning with no hits or runs, and two walks.
DU 8, VCSU 4
The Vikings fell in game two to the Defenders 8-4.
Jaden Babiuk went 3-for-4 with one RBI.
Kaden Rozdeba was 2-for-3 with two RBI's and one run.
Dordt opened the scoring taking one run in the first and second inning. Valley City State responded in the third scoring off a Babiuk single driving in
Diesel Goya. Later in the fouth Dordt found two run making the score 4-1.
Dordt tallied one more run to their score in the sixth making the score 5-1. In the seventh they expanded their lead to 8-1. The Vikings gave it their best effort to tie thing in the seventh scoring two on a Rozdeba double and one off a Wielgosh single. The game finished with the score of 8-4.
Dordts Daniel Buteyn was credit the win after pitching three innings. VCSU's
Connor Martin pitch five innings giving up five hits, five runs, four walks, while earning seven strikeouts. Martin is now 0-1 on the season.
UP NEXT: The Vikings are set to travel to Orlando, Fla to participate in the RussMatt Invitation where they will play 15 games in 15 days. Game one is slated for March 1 against Trinity Baptist College.
