DICKINSON, N.D. – Valley City State University volleyball took home a 3-1 win over Dickinson State University on Thursday Oct. 30. Set scores in the contest were 25-23, 23-25, 25-23, and 25-19. Viking Senior JayCee Richer becomes the first Viking to record 2,000 career digs.
 
The Vikings move to 11-13 overall and 9-11 in Frontier Conference games. The Bluehawks are now 11-13 overall and are 7-12 in Frontier Conference games.
 
VCSU took the first set 25-23 after a kill by 
Danielle Hagler that put the set away. Set one contained 10 ties and three lead changes. Those three lead changes would come in the first ten points of the game. With the game tied 7-7, the Vikings went on to a 10-7 lead off of a few DSU attack errors. 
Emma Lucas and Dannielle Hagler would add on to that lead with a couple of kills making it 12-8. Going back in fourth neither team strung together any long rallies. The Vikings would later close the first set 25-23.
 
In the second, the Vikings saw an early Dickinson State 6-0 run, making the score 8-4 in favor of the Bluehawks. After a timeout the Vikings found a little tracking narrowing the score 9-7 after a Hagler kill. They later tied the set at 11-11 from an 
Emma Lucas kill. Battling hard, the Vikings were unable to capture a lead in later in the second set. They later tied the set once more at 22-22 but fell short losing the set 25-23.
 
VCSU started the third scoring on kills by 
Emma Lucas, 
Madden Bogenreif and 
Morgan Freije. They tallied an early 9-4 lead. DSU responded with a 5-0 run tying the set at 9-9. In the middle of the third set the Vikings found themselves trailing by one or two points most of the way. They later tied the set at 18-18 after a kill by 
Ellie Lucas. A few points later they forced a DSU timeout at 20-18. 
Emma Lucas earned kill on three of the last four Viking point helping take the set 25-23.
 
The Vikings got off to a slow start in the beginning of the fourth set, down 7-4 early on. Later, trailing 11-8 the Vikings went on a 8-0 run capturing a 16-11 lead with kills by 
Emma Lucas, 
Danielle Hagler, 
Macy Fridgen, and an ace by 
JayCee Richter. The Vikings held strong in the ladder half of the fourth set closing the match with three straight points.
 
Fridgen led the Vikings on offense earning 16 kills on the evening. Freije and 
Emma Lucas followed with 11 kills. Richter added 36 digs to the school record becoming the first Viking to surpass 2,000 career digs. She now totals 2,001 digs atop the Viking Volleyball record books. Bogenreif had 25 assists in the contest while 
Gracie Schumacher had 19.
