BUTTE, MONT. – Valley City State University Volleyball completed a 3-0 sweep over the (RV) Montana Tech Orediggers. The Vikings start their two-game Montana road trip with a win after taking three straight sets, 25-22, 25-23, and 25-21.
VCSU improves their record to 7-10 overall and 5-7 in Frontier Conference games. The Orediggers fall to 11-8 overall and 7-6 in Frontier Conference games.
In set one, the Vikings took an early two-point lead that they carried until the score of 8-6. The Montana Tech Orediggers then went on a 4-0 run on an Emmy Green serve, taking their first lead of the match at 10-8. The Vikings quickly responded with a
Morgan Freije kill, narrowing the gap to one. They would go back and forth with the Orediggers until they went on a 5-0 run, reclaiming the lead and growing it to 18-15. Tech later took the lead at 21-20 but capitalized on a service error and a
Madden Bogenreif serve to take a 24-21 lead. Two points later, they took the set after a kill from
Danielle Hagler.
In the second set, the Vikings found themselves trailing slightly early on down 12-9. They then responded with a 5-0 run started by a
Madden Bogenreif kill.

Emma Lucas, and
Macy Fridgen paired up for a couple of blocks, and
Molly Bjorneby capped off the run with an ace, taking a 14-12 lead. The Orediggers reclaimed a 20-17 lead a few points later. Trading point for point down the stretch, the Vikings found a way to close the set after a Hagler kill and Bjorneby ace.
The third set was much of the same. The two teams held close for the majority of the set. With the score of 20-19, the Vikings were finally able to take a sizable lead on a couple of Hagler kills during Bjorneby's serve. On the 24-21 match point,
Morgan Freije finished it off by blocking Montana Tech's Abby Clark.
Closing the match, Hagler recorded 12 kills and only three attack errors. She added seven assisted blocks, totaling 15.5 points on the evening.
Macy Fridgen followed with nine kills along with five assisted blocks totaling 11.5 points on the night. On defense, the team was led by
JayCee Richter, who recorded eight digs and a pair of assists.
Annika Pulju recorded seven digs on the evening. The Vikings were once again steered by a pair of passers in Bogenreif and
Gracie Schumacher, totaling 14 and 12 assists, respectively.
