DILLON, MONT. – The Valley City State University volleyball team makes it two in a row and six straight set victories after sweeping Montana Western University on Saturday, Oct. 11. The Vikings took down the Bulldogs 25-20, 25-9, and 25-16.
The Vikings move to 8-10 overall and 6-7 in Frontier Conference games. The Bulldogs fall to 9-12 overall and 7-7 in Frontier Conference games.
The Vikings took the first set 25-20, after jumping out to an early 6-1 lead, scoring two aces on a
Gracie Schumacher serve. Montana Western closed the gap to 18-17 after a VCSU error. They then scored three straight points after a timeout with a kill and block by
Danielle Hagler. The Vikings closed the set with a kill by
Morgan Freije assisted by
Madden Bogenreif.
The Vikings dominated the second set 25-9, outscoring the Bulldogs 14-3 in the second half of the set. They scored three on blocks by
Macy Fridgen,
Morgan Freije,
Emma Lucas, and
Danielle Hagler.
Montana Western had an early one-point lead for the start of the third set, leading 5-4. They tied 5-5 after a Bulldog attack error; the Vikings went on to grow a 12-7 lead after a
Molly Bjorneby ace and Fridgen kill.
Fridgen led the Vikings with nine kills in the contest. Hagler followed with 7 kills. On defense, the Vikings had Hagler and Lucas both record six assisted blocks. Freije had two assisted blocks and one solo in the match.
JayCee Richter tallied a team-leading 23 digs and was followed by
Delani Clarke with 13.
