VALLEY CITY – N.D. – Valley City State University men's basketball was defeated by Mayville State University 93-82 Friday, Jan. 10. MSU moves to 12-6 and 3-2 in NSAA games. VCSU falls to 10-6 and 1-4 in NSAA games.
 
Valley City State battled in a physical matchup in the first half against Mayville State where depth scoring aided MSU in building and sustaining a first half lead. With ten minutes remaining in the first half MSU led 20-12 over the Vikings. The Vikings narrowed the gap to 28-23 with 6:11 remaining.
 
Going into halftime the Vikings trailed 46-34. They shot 14-29 from the field, 1-8 from the three-point line, and 5-8 from the free throw line. Lamar Grayson led the team with 15 points, three assists, and three steals.
 
The Comets shot 20-43, 3-8 from the three-point line, and 3-6 from the free throw line. Darren Jones and JJ White had 11 and ten points respectively.
 
In the second MSU kept the foot on the gas holding the lead for the remainder of the game. Closing the game with a score of 93-82.
 
VCSU shot 28-58 from the field, 7-18 from the three-point line, and 19-26 from the free-throw line. Shaheed Muhammad tallied 23 second half points and 25 points on the night. Lamar Grayson finished with 23 points.
 
MSU shot 37-74 from the field, 5-15 from the three-point line, and 14-27 from the free throw line. They had a balanced performance with six players in double figures.
