Valley City State's
Sydney Carlson has earned her first career NSAA Golfer of the Week honor, the conference office announced Wednesday.
NSAA Women's Golfer of the Week
Sydney Carlson – Valley City State (N.D.) – Junior – Edgeley, N.D. – Carlson posted a third-place finish after firing 157 total strokes (13-over-par), including seven birdies, in the Jamestown (N.D.) Fall Invitational for Valley City State (N.D.). Her 75 (3-over-par) to kick off the tournament set a new school record for the lowest women's round in VCSU's school history. Carlson finished the second round with a score of 82 (10-over-par). A total of 42 golfers competed in the tournament.
NSAA Men's Golfer of the Week
Thomas Gatlin – Bellevue (Neb.) – Junior – Lincoln, Neb. – Gatlin totaled eight birdies against just nine bogeys and one double bogey for Bellevue (Neb.) in the Northwest Iowa National Invitational. He finished in a tie for 10
th place at 3-over-par 216 strokes. Gatlin shot 75 (4-over-par in the first round) and fired a second round of 68 (3-under-par). He finished the third round with a round of 73 strokes (2-over-par). A total of 75 golfers competed in the tournament.
Looking Ahead (Men's/Women's)
Five North Star Athletic Association members – Bellevue (Neb.), Dickinson State (N.D.), Jamestown (N.D.), Mayville State (N.D.), and Valley City State (N.D.) – will compete in the fall conference championships on Sunday and Monday. The fall conference championships will be hosted by VCSU.
The two-day fall conference tournament takes place at CrossRoads Golf Club in Carrington, N.D. The two round scores will carry over to the spring conference tournament, which will take place in Bellevue, Neb., in late April.
