Viking Men to face Mayville in NSAA postseason

The Valley City State men's basketball team will face Mayville State in the opening round of the NSAA Postseason Tournament.
 
The Vikings dropped their regular season finale on Saturday, falling 76-58 at Bellevue University. With the win, Bellevue clinched the NSAA Regular Season Championship. Valley City State (11-15, 3-9 NSAA) is the No. 7 seed for the postseason and faces No. 2 Mayville State on Wednesday, Feb. 21. That game is set for 7 p.m. in Mayville.
 
Mayville State entered the weekend leading the NSAA standings but went 0-2 to finish the regular season while Bellevue went 2-0 to win the title.
 
The Vikings dropped both their regular season match-ups with Mayville, losing 96-76 at home before dropping a tight 86-84 game at Mayville. VCSU split its regular season meetings with Bellevue, winning at home before dropping the finale Saturday at Bellevue.
 
Valley City State closed out the regular season with a 76-58 loss at Bellevue on Saturday. The Vikings shot just 38 percent in the first half as they fell behind 31-21 at the break. The Vikings closed to within six points early in the second half before Bellevue re-established a double-digit lead and held it the rest of the way.
 
Cleveland Bedgood led the Viking attack with 17 points, five rebounds and four assists. Cayden Rickard added 12 points and had a team-high four steals, while LaDarious Stanfield finished with 12 points and six rebounds off the bench.
 
VCSU shot 42 percent overall (24-57), 25 percent on 3's (4-26) and 40 percent on free throws (6-15). Bellevue shot 50 percent overall (29-58), 42 percent on 3's (10-24) and 57 percent on free throws (8-14).
