VALLEY CITY N.D. – Valley City State University men's basketball defeated Trinity Bible College Tuesday by a final score of 113-76.
VCSU is now 8-3 on the sesason while TBC drops to 4-5.
Tyrel Creger gave the Vikings a 5-0 lead after knocking down a three early in the first half. TBC answered with a quick layup and a Quincy Wilson three of their own evening up the score at 5-5. Early on, VCSU and TBC took many looks from the three-point line in the fast-paced matchup.
Ten minutes into the contest, VCSU led TBC 23-18 after six lead changes. VCSU was shooting 44 percent (8-18) from the field, 20 percent (2-10) from the three-point line, and 83 percent (5-6) from the free throw line. TBC was shooting 37 percent (7-19) from the field, 44 percent (4-9) from the three-point line, and was yet to make it to the free throw line.
Down the stretch TBC narrowed the lead and generated eight more lead changes, however
Lamar Grayson's 14-point first half helped the Vikings grow their lead to ten by halftime.
Entering halftime with a lead of 52-42, the Vikings shot 45 percent (18-40) from the field and 16 percent (3-19) from the three-point line. They were an impressive 93 percent (13-14) from the free throw line. TBC closed out the first half shooting 44 percent (14-32) from the field, 56 percent (10-18) from the three-point line, and 100 percent (4-4) from the free throw line.
Creger opened the second half with a first possession three, which started a 14-2 Viking run. VCSU opened up a 22-point 66-44 lead which was their largest of the game to that point. From there the Vikings steadily grew their lead to throughout the half to where the game ended at 113-76.
The Vikings got strong performances up and down the line. They were led by
Lamar Grayson who scored 18 points shooting 6-8 from the field, 6-7 from the free throw line and generating four steals and rebounds.
Tyrel Creger shot an impressive 5-8 from the three-point line earning 15 points, four assists, four rebounds, and two steals.
LaDarious Stanfield made efficient use of 13 minutes shooting 4/5 from the field for eight points, five rebounds, two blocks, and one steal.
TBC was led by Jacob King who had 12 points who shot 4-7 from the three-point line. Jonathan Ogugua had eight points, seven rebounds, six assists, and two steals.
The Vikings shot 49 percent (42-85) from the field, 30 percent (13-43) from the three-point line, and 76 percent (16-21) from the free throw line. VCSU earned 66 points in the paint, 66 points from the bench and 38 points off turnovers.
The Lions shot 41 percent (28-68) from the field, 41% (12/29) from the three-point line, and 62 percent (8-13) from the free throw line. TBC earned 38 points in the paint, 24 points from the bench, and six points off turnovers.
