Vikings drop conference match to No. 6 Bruins

VALLEY CITY – The No. 6 Bellevue Bruins volleyball team took three straight sets from Valley City State University Friday night. Kealy Kiviniemi was too much for the Vikings, totaling 10 kills in the Bellevue win 25-9, 25-21, 25-23.
 
Bellevue improves to 26-9 on the season and 6-1 in the North Star. Valley City State University drops to 13-13 overall and 5-5 in conference play.
 
The Bruins totaled 50 kills on a .248 hitting percentage while VCSU recorded 30 kills while hitting .084 in the match. Bellevue also played stronger defensively, tallying 71 digs to VCSU's 60.
 
After a rocky start in first set, 25-9. The Vikings found their momentum and kept up with the Bruins in the second set, even pulling ahead 14-12 with a 6-point rally sparked by a kill from Macy Fridgen. The Vikings remained close with Bellevue throughout the rest of the match, but Bellevue was able to pull away, finishing with four straight points including two from Savanna Berger to take the second set 25-21.

The Vikings held on to the momentum from the second set fight and started off strong in the third set with a kill from Rosie Anderson that sparked a 4-point run to help the Vikings build up a 4-1 advantage right off the bat. They continued their fight tallying 15 kills on a .151 hitting percentage for its most efficient set of the match. The set remained close but with a 20-19 lead, Kealy Kiviniemi recorded a crucial kill for the Bruins that sparked a 3-point run to help them secure a 25-23 sweep.
 
Rosie Anderson totaled a team-high eight kills while Macy Fridgen recorded seven. Sadie Hansen posted 22 set assists and 10 digs, and Delani Clarke totaled 14 digs for the Vikings.
 
Bellevue's Taylan Keefer recorded 30 digs and Eve Fountain totaled 13 digs and seven kills. Mila Aiwohi finished with 31 set assists and Victoria Runyan contributed 16 set assists for the Bruins.
