MAYVILLE – The Valley City State volleyball team swept Mayville State on the road Thursday night, 25-22, 25-22 and 25-15.
Rosie Anderson led the Viking offense with 12 kills on the night, tying a career-high she set on Sept. 25 in Valley City when VCSU defeated Mayville 3-2 in its first matchup of the season. VCSU is now 12-12 on the season and 4-4 in the North Star. Mayville drops to 8-16 overall and 1-7 in conference play.
The Vikings took the first set 25-22 after a late surge propelled the Vikings to an early advantage. Trailing 18-16, a
Sadie Hansen kill sparked a 6-1 rally to take over control of the set and an
Emma Lucas kill put the set away in favor of the Vikings.
VCSU held onto its momentum, opening the second set with an 18-12 lead capped by a
Rosie Anderson kill. The Vikings held a 22-17 lead when the Comets found a 5-1 run to close the gap to trail 23-22. A Lucas kill brought up set-point and
Reagan Bogenreif sealed the win with a service ace.
The Vikings then handily finished the match with a late 12-4 run in the third set, including the final five points to take a 25-15 win.
Sadie Hansen finished with a double double of 33 set assists and 11 digs on the night.
JayCee Richter totaled 18 digs while
Delani Clarke chipped in 10.
Macy Fridgen and
Emma Lucas each contributed eight kills, and
Morgan Nelson totaled five kills and four assisted blocks for the Vikings.
The Comets were led by Madison McKinnon who totaled 13 kills Thursday while Samantha Pass added eight kills and 16 digs. Noelle Erickson finished with 18 set assists and Lindsey Nyhagen posted 15. Tori Richter led all players with 20 digs in the match.
