JAMESTOWN – The No. 2 Jamestown volleyball team took three straight sets from Valley City State Saturday afternoon. Aleah Zieske was too much for the Vikings, totaling 22 kills in the Jamestown win 25-21, 25-13 and 25-21.
Jamestown remains undefeated on the season with an 18-0 record and a 7-0 mark in the North Star. Valley City State drops to 11-12 overall and 3-4 in conference play.
The Jimmies totaled 52 kills on a .301 hitting percentage while VCSU recorded just 28 kills while hitting .126 in the match. Jamestown also played stronger defensively, tallying 48 digs to VCSU's 37.
The Vikings kept up with the Jimmies in the first set, even pulling ahead 20-18 with a 5-point rally sparked by a kill from
Rosie Anderson. Jamestown made a late comeback though, finishing with five straight points including three from Zieske to take the first set 25-21.
The Jimmies used the momentum to propel them to a 25-13 win in the second set, tallying 16 kills on a .387 hitting percentage for its most efficient set of the match. VCSU continued its fight, building up a 13-12 advantage in set three after a 4-point run. The set remained close but with a Jimmie 18-17 lead, Jamestown held on for a 25-21 victory to secure the sweep.
Macy Fridgen totaled a team-high 10 kills while Anderson and
Morgan Freije each added six kills.
Sadie Hansen posted 24 set assists and eight digs, and JayCee Ricther totaled 10 digs for the Vikings.
Jamestown's Grace Hegerle recorded 14 digs and Ellie Holen totaled 13 digs Saturday. Lily Bertsch finished with 25 set assists and Tenley Buddenhagen contributed 24 set assists for the Jimmies.
